Sweet RentalFloral Creations for Your Rental with Just Six Items
Flowers are often overlooked as a versatile and elegant way to add a pop of color to your rental space. Floral arrangements allow you to easily transition your decor seasonally and with a varying budget. Whether it’s minimalist with only a few blooms, or an elaborate design with several different florals, the options are endless. When creating arrangements for your rental, I recommend a simple design using one of my go-to floral recipes. So, let’s jump in and create an inspiring piece for with only six items.
First thing first, what color scheme are you envisioning? Are you wanting a neutral piece that will flow with the room? Or perhaps a vibrant pop of color or texture? Florals come in a vast array of colors and textures. Shopping for your florals can be overwhelming if you haven’t narrowed down what shades you want. I chose to add pink to mine to bring a splash of spring into my space. Once you have the color scheme, it’s time to channel your inner florist and hand pick your ingredients!
Item 1: Vase or Container
What are you placing your florals in? Don’t go getting discouraged on me if you don’t have a fancy vase. I’m not saying you have to go out and purchase one because they can be pricy. I’ve even used mason jars and cans before. Yes, you heard me. Go grab some canned beans and rinse out the can. It makes a perfect little container for some fresh florals! You can consider adding ribbon or wrapping paper to the can to add some flare. If your wanting to purchase one, I usually find my vases at Target, Home Goods, Hobby Lobby or At Home. (I always shop clearance and find the most unique vases.) This vase I scored in the clearance aisle at Target for $6. I loved the neutral tone of the vase because it gave me the freedom to do any color scheme I wanted. Plus, the details on it reminded me of lace and gave it a feminine look.
Item 2: Greenery
Now begins the good stuff….FLORALS. I always start with the greenery. This will be your base when making your floral arrangement. It helps fill space and makes the design look lush and full. You want to place your greenery in the vase first. Cut different heights and place them in your vase at different angles. My favorites are any variety of Eucalyptus. Silver Dollar and Seeded Eucalyptus are some of my most used greenery. Easy to care for and all it needs is a fresh cut. Some of my other favorites include Dusty Miller and Willow. Sometimes you just have to use what’s available. In this piece I used Variegated Pittosporum. It’s lush and green and that’s all that matters.
Item 3: Filler/Volume Flowers
If I had to choose one floral that is not only budget friendly, but also adds texture and volume to arrangements, it would be Hydrangea. They are so easy to care for, just needing a fresh cut and plenty of water. They come in so many shades too. I usually use 3-5 stems depending on how big I want my arrangement. Add these with the greenery.
TIP: The colored Hydrangeas are more expensive. Another option is to buy the white Hydrangea and use floral spray paint to get the desired shade. You can get the floral spray paint at any floral supply store. Craft stores like Micheals usually carry them as well. Other great filler flowers are Babies Breath and Stock.
Items 4 and 5: Blooms
Selecting the blooms is one of my other favorite parts. So many options, all beautiful in their own way. I usually add 2-3 different kinds of blooms. In this arrangement I used white Ranunculus and fuchsia Spray Roses. I love these two florals because you don’t get just one bloom per stem. It’s usually about 3-5 blooms per stem. They are already at different heights as well so when your placing them in your centerpiece, it looks like multiple stem placements but really it’s just one stem. Both are perfect options when creating your masterpiece. Did I mention that they are both STUNNING when they fully bloom? Place these throughout your vase around and through the greenery and filler flowers. Add an artistic look by keeping the blooms longer then the filler flowers. These tend to be the most pricy in arrangements, so you want people to be able to see them. Some other favorites of mine are Peonies and Garden Roses.
Item 6: Texture
Give me all the texture! Just like adding details to a painting, we want to add details to our floral designs too. So many fun options to choose from. I chose the Wax flower. Tiny blooms and buds all over the stems gives this arrangement fun texture. They also come in a variety of shades as well. They can also be used as a filler flower and to add some volume to your arrangement. You can add this after your greenery if you choose, but I like to wait until last so I can add texture where I want. I simply place stems by blooms and through the greenery and filler florals. Some other floral options to add texture are the Craspedia Billy Balls or the Pincushion Protea. Both so fun and unique!
TIP: You don’t have to use florals to add texture. Adding items like feathers or aluminum wire will make your arrangement stand out.
TA-DA! Here is my finished floral design. I hope you realized that bringing life into your rental decor with beautiful floral arrangement is easy. No matter which style you choose, in the end it will be elegant and unique, giving your home a stunning piece to admire.

Support a Local Florist
Due to Covid19 many businesses are suffering, especially the event industry. Weddings have been either postponed or cancelled altogether. Since we can’t see our friends and family right now, a great way to support a local florist is by sending a floral arrangement to brighten someone’s day. If you’re not wanting to send flowers right now, order in advance for a special occasion like a birthday or anniversary.
