Tips from the Experts: Moving & COVID19

by | Rental Life, The Hunt | 0 comments

While much of the world may feel stalled, summer move season has slowly reared its ugly head.  Leases are up, jobs have transferred and moves, well they must move forward.  Moving is stressful during normal condition, doing so during a worldwide pandemic is enough to unnerve the most seasoned renters. RentalDiaries has joined with Lindsay Dow of TWO MEN AND A TRUCK to bring you tips for moving during COVID19, straight from the moving experts.

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK offers comprehensive home relocation and packing services in 44 states and has remained focused moving their customers forward in a safe environment. Even better? They pride themselves on operating under “The Grandma Rule: To treat everyone the way you would want your Grandma to be treated.” How can you not love that, especially during COVID19!

Moving in Coronavirus

What is your best advice in order to socially distance within the property (for both the movers’ safety and the residents’ safety)?

We encourage customers to remain in contact with their local office about all things related to moving day during this time. Our moving teams are using extra safety precautions to keep customers safe during as well. This means social distancing and regular sanitization of hands and moving equipment.

If customers are able, having one person on site and planning ahead so other family members or friends aren’t on site during the move is helpful. If possible, wearing a mask and staying out of the room the movers are in, are also encouraged on move day.

More information on this can be found at https://twomenandatruck.com/coronavirus

Many of us make an effort to provide food, snacks and drinks to movers during the course of the day (because we know how hard they are working!) With the climate of COVID-19 would that still be accepted?

This is still fine depending on if the movers are comfortable with this nice gesture. Setting them out in a common area for the movers to grab as they go, may also be a good idea.

What should be expected regarding the movers and packers coming into a rental home?  Should the movers be wearing masks and gloves?  Have any precautionary measures been taken to ensure their health?

Each franchise is following a different set of guidelines based on the area where they are located. Be sure to ask the staff when booking your move about their policies regarding gloves and masks to make sure you’re both on the same page and that you feel safe on moving day.

Summer move season is already typically a very busy time of the year.  Do you anticipate industry delays in scheduling of pickup or delivery of household goods?

This will vary by location across the country. Be sure to reach out directly to your local franchise a few weeks in advance from when you were looking for pickup or delivery services to make sure they can accommodate you. With May-August being our busiest months for moving, advanced notice of two weeks or more from your ideal move date is a great time to call and get scheduled so you can secure your preferred date and time.

Do you have any closing thoughts on how to help make a move go smoother during the unique circumstances surrounding spring/summer 2020?

Do as much as you can to prepare for moving day before the movers arrive. Have your entire home packed into boxes and stack them in one central location so it’s easy for the movers to grab them and load the truck. This can save customers time (and money since local moves are charged at an hourly rate!) by minimizing the amount of trips the movers would have to take to separate rooms in the home to grab items.

Special thanks to Lindsay and TWO MEN AND A TRUCK for helping to ensure we all stay healthy together as we move forward.  If you are looking to book a move, be sure to visit https://twomenandatruck.com. Have more questions about what to expect during this move season? Leave a comment below.
